Mid-life career change - Reflection #1

Writer's picture: Antony TseAntony Tse

Many people have asked me to share my story on how I’ve made a career change midlife. When I have the chance to speak to them face to face, their response was similar: “ I see your face glow when you talk about your new direction...”

That’s how I know I have made the right decision.

I know it is intimidating for people midlife to step out their comfort zone and start something new. The truth is, you can make a midlife career change.

With the year-end approaching, I want to share a few reflections here with you. Here is the first one : Make a Paradigm shift in your mind.

Our culture is telling us that once you are in your 40's or 50's, you enter a period of aging and decline. You do not enough years left, or that you don’t have the time to make a big life change because of family responsibilities or other commitments.

This is a myth that I’ve once also believed.

The truth is, there’s no reason you can’t do what you’re passionate about just because you hit a certain age. It is never too late to change your game plan.

Some of you reading this post may be in your mid-30s to early 40s, some may be already in the second half. Regardless of where you are, I invite you to first discredit the view that it is too late to change, and to “un-pair” age from growth.

Your second half is a journey to grow into significance, with many possibilities to move, to explore and to develop.

Believe me, and believe in yourself.

What is holding you back?
